DESCRIPTION:
Moxyplus
contains Amoxycillin a semi-synthetic Penicillin on analogue of Ampicillin with a broad spectrum of bactericidal activity against gram positive organisms and many gram negative pathogens. Lactobacillus sporogenes in Moxyplus helps in preventing diarrhoea and also maintain normal intestinal Flora which is usually disturbed with the action of antibiotics.

MICROBIOLOGY:
Moxyplus is highly active against gram-positive cocci including streptococci, pneumococci and pencillin-sensitive staphylococci, and gram-negative organisms including Haemophillus influenzae Escheichia coli, Neisseria gonorrhoeae, Nwisseria meningitidis, Proteus mirabillis, Shigella sonnei and Salmonella species.

ADVERSE SIDE EFFECTS:
Moxyplus is extremely well tolerated. As with other penicillins, untoward reactions are essentially limited to sensitivity phenomena in individuals who have previously demonstrated hypersensitivity to penicillins.
As with other penicillins, nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea, skin rashes, uriticaria anaemia, eosinophilia thrombocytopenia and agranulocytosis have been reported in rare instances. These reactions are usually reversible on discontinuation of therapy and are believed to be hypersensitivity phenomena.

CONTRA-INDICATIONS:It is contraindicated in patients with history of a previous hypersensitivity reaction to any of the penicillins.

SPECIAL PRECAUTIONS:The possibility of superinfections with mucotic organisms or bacterial pathogens should be kept in mind during therapy. In such cases discontinue the drug and substitute appropriate treatment.

WARNING:
Serious and occasionally fatal hypersensitivity (anaphylactoid) reactions have been reported in patients on penicillin therapy. Although anaphlaxis is more frequent following parenteral therapy, it has occurred in patients on oral penicillin. These reactions are more apt to occur in individuals with a history of sensitivity to multiple allergens.
SERIOUS ANAPHYLACTOID REACTIONS REQUIRE IMMEDIATE EMERGENCY TREATMENT WITH EPINEPHRINE, OXYGEN, INTRAVENOUS STEROIDS AND AIRWAY MANAGEMENT INCLUDING INTUBATION.

USAGE IN PREGNANCY:SAFETY FOR USE IN PREGNANCY HAS NOT BEEN ESTABLISHED.

INDICATIONS:
Upper respiratory tract infections: Pharyngitis, Laryngitis, Tonsillitis, Otitis media.

Insurgery and dermatology: Skin and soft tissue infections, Carbuncles, Boils, Obstetrical infections, Abscesses.
Meningococcal meningitis: Therapy may be started prior to establishing susceptibility of the causative organism. Like Ampicillin it should not be given in infectious mononucleosis.

USUAL DOSAGE AND ADMINISTRATION:
Adults: 250 to 500 mg every 8 hours depending on severity of infection.
Children: 20 to 40mg/kg/day in divided doses every 8-hour depending on severity of infections. Children weighing 20 kg or more should be dosed according to the adult recommendations.
Gonorrhoea, acute uncomplicated amogenital and urethral infections due to N.gonorrhoeae: (males and females) 3 gm as a single oral dose.
It is recommended that there should be atleast 10 days treatment for any infection caused by hemolytic streptococi to prevent the occurrence of acute rheumatic fever or glomarulonephritis.
