DESCRIPTION: Ibuprofen and Paracetamol supplement each other's action.Ibuprofen is new non-steroid anti-inflammatory drug and after administration leads to adequate analgesia and antipyretic effect.
MECHANISM OF ACTION: Like all NSAIDs Ibuprofen exert action by inhibiting the biosynthesis and release of prostaglandins. It inhibits cyclo-oxygenase enzyme and hence prostaglandin synthesis. It generally do not inhibit formation of leukotriences which also contribute to inflammation. Paracetamol acts on CNS to produce analgesia and anti-pyretic effect.
PHARMACOKINETICS: After oral administration, it is rapidly and almost completely absorbed. It is highly protein bound.
Onset of Action: Analgesic action 30 min. anti inflammatory action upto 7 days.
Duration of Action: 4-6 hours
ADVERSE EFFECTS: Nausea, epi-gastric distress, vomiting, skin rash, dizziness, headache, thrombocytopenia.
CONTRAINDICATION: Active peptic ulcer, GI bleeding, hypersensitivity.
SPECIAL PRECAUTIONS: Bleeding disorders, aspirin or anti inflammatory drug induced allergy, asthma, hypertension, hepatic or renal or cardiac dysfunction.
PREGNANCY :CONTRAINDICATED
LACTATION: May be given
ELDERLY: May be given in reduced doses
INDICATIONS: Non-articular rheumatic conditions, rheumatoid or osteo-arthritis. Cervical spondylosis, infective inflammation and dental conditions. Pain, fever associated with inflammation.
DOSAGE AND ADMINISTRATION: Adults: 1 tablet thrice daily. Children: 20-40 mg/kg/day of Ibuprofen in divided doses.
